Hak & Lindsey's Engagement Shoot

I met Hak and Lindsey just under a year ago when they booked me for their wedding day in May 2015. We had planned to do their engagement session in late 2014 when the trees were glowing with the colour of Autumn. But with the wild weather we had that did not last long. We had set a date for October, when the day arrived Autumn was no longer + we had torrential rain!

We decided to leave it till after the winter, and what a great decision that was! Spring arrived and  the light we recieved was just beautiful, early morning, clear skies, the birds were dancing in the sunlight, everybody was happy. The connection between Hak and Lindsey is amazing, the way they read each other, make each other laugh and encourage communication, essential elements of a long lasting marriage. Im very much looking forward to documenting their wedding day in the next few weeks. Thanks again guys for a fun filled morning, and bring on the wedding day!

Sheryll & Isaac - Eltham Palace, South London

August was a very busy month for me, Filled with great weddings, weather and awesome projects.

Meet Sheryll and Isaac,

Sheryll is an educational speaker and Isaac an accountant. They got married on the 2nd of August 2014 in a beautiful ceremony at St Faiths Church in south east London. I was shooting this wedding in Conjunction with Diamond Studios, a brilliant video production team from south London.

I started with the groom preparations at the Novotel in Canary wharf. It was a great way to start the day, the boys were full of life, and ready to see their man Isaac marry the beautiful Sheryll. With a steaming iron, blue lines and some awesome video light, I captured a great start to this wedding day. We then headed to Sheryll's home for bridal preparations, when we arrived the house was quiet, Sheryll was upstairs getting ready for her make up artist to arrive, some peace and quiet before the day begins. The house soon started to fill, the makeup artist arrived and slowly the bridesmaids turned up, the house soon turned to organised chaos. Sheryll was arriving to the ceremony in a classic Rolls Royce, which soon arrived, but as they say, "good things take time".

The beautiful wedding ceremony took place in St Faiths Church in south east London, a striking little church with a friendly priest allowing free roam around the church. It was a touching ceremony, finished with the most elegant first kiss I have witnessed.

We then headed to the exquisite Eltham palace, childhood home of Henry VIII, now a 1930s art deco masterpiece. I had never been here before and I was in for a treat! Entering through stunning entrance I found numerous locations to use later in the day. Rounding the corner into the great medieval banquet hall I knew I was in for a great reception! My jaw dropped and I needed a moment to gather myself. Beautifully decorated and ready for a fantastic reception. Before this we ventured the grounds for a portrait session, I had spotted a weeping willow tree over the moat as I crossed the bridge to enter the grounds. I knew then this was where we would do a portrait session. So happy we found our way there as it certainly paid off!

Congratulations Sheryll and Isaac, it was such an amazing wedding. I wish you all the best for you married life.

I always start the day with the ring shot, it is my way of getting the creativity going. I love the blue line leading down this image.

Portrait session number one, the willow tree. Such stunning ground to work around. I always wish i had more time. But thats part of the skill, is to be able to choose locations and be definitive in what you want to create, direct and achieve the images in your mind with precision and as little fuss within minimal time, I'm still learning, but am certainly getting there!

Colleen & Daniel - Hilton Double Tree - Ealing, London

Meet Colleen and Daniel, a couple of freelance creatives. They got married on the 29th of August 2014,  and it was I who was the fortunate one to be shooting their beautiful wedding!

We had met earlier in the year at a wedding fair, and a month or so later I was booked for the big day, and a big day it was!! We met up prior to their wedding for their "Love Story" shoot which took place at the Beautiful Boston Manor House in west London, to be fair I didn't know this place existed until that day, a quick location scout on google maps located this underestimated location, and unearthed a real gem that I will now use again and again. We were fortunate to be able to use the inside of this splendid manor, please check out Colleen and Daniel's love story here before you continue!

The 29th of August quickly arrived, it had been a very busy month, but I was very much looking forward to this Wedding. It was a crisp morning, but the sun was shining and we were in for a beautiful day, I was cool, calm and relaxed and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast as bridal preparation was only 10mins away (A beautiful thing!). Bridal Preps took place at The Double Tree By Hilton, with a large window in the room and the light falling the right way I had plenty of time to capture the beautiful shots needed to begin the story of this wedding day.

After the dress was put on, I headed to the ceremony location, The Ealing Christian Centre, perhaps rather deceiving on the outside, but inside is a beautiful old theatre, with access to two levels. A live band playing and the Christian ceremony was brilliant, emotional and full of love!

We then headed to Boston Manor Park to shoot the bridal party and the Bride and Groom portraits. When we arrived we caught a little bit of rain, but that was more a blessing than anything else. We hid under the ancient Cedar tree, and to my amazement we found some beautiful portrait light and the most stunning textures. Once the rain subsided we moved around to the manor house where the red bricks  and quiet space gave us time to create more stunning portraits.

From here we headed back to The Hilton Double Tree for Colleen and Daniel's Beautiful reception party. Thank you Colleen and Daniel for having me document you wedding day, it was truly beautiful.

You can check out more of Colleen and Daniel's wedding day here.

Details, I love the details. What a stunning pair of shoes Colleen had also, so could not resist the Ring and Shoe shot!  She paired this with an equally stunning wedding gown!

Fiona & Ross - Pembroke Lodge - Richmond - London

Welcome to Fiona and Ross’s stunning wedding day.

I met Fiona at a wedding fair in March, that same evening I was booked to shoot their wedding on August 23rd 2014.

We met again in May to do a love story shoot, it was such a great day, and gave us all time to learn more about each other, you can see Fiona and Ross’s Love story here.

Fiona is a journalist and Ross a lawyer, They chose the stunning Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park to host their reception; I had never shot this location, but am so happy I have now! The natural light that streams through this venue is truly amazing, Matched with the beautiful views from the patio and with Richmond Park across the road, bathed in golden sunlight, Pembroke Lodge is a truly stunning wedding location.

Bridal preparations took place at the Xander Hotel in Ealing broadway, as per usual a great way to start a wedding, documenting from the beginning and capturing the first moments of the wedding, the finer details, and watching the emotions unfold.

This was a truly magical wedding. The Ceremony took place at St Matthews Church in Ealing Common, Perhaps not the finest on the outside, but on the inside it was a beautiful touching ceremony.

We moved on to Pembroke Lodge for the reception, with use of the patio basking in beautiful sunshine I captured some beautiful candid photos of these two interacting with there guests. With a Scottish theme to the wedding, Fiona and Ross were called to dinner with bag pipes. A brilliant speech by Ross, truly set the tone of this wedding day, full of love, laughter, and beautiful memories of those that couldn't be there.  We had planned to do their formal portraits when the sun was going down! a great decision.

Congratulations Ross and Fiona, It was a beautiful wedding, Thank you for allowing me to be an important part of it! You can check out more of their day here.

I love the Photo Journalism side to a wedding, the moments captured that no one else sees, Like the very first image of Ross sneaking a kiss from his new wife before they enter for dinner.

Richmond Park is such an amazing place for portrait work, with so many location options, light streaming through trees, It sometimes feels like your not in London, but i guess that proves the diversity of this amazing city.

Benedicte and Kjetil - Summer Solstice - Bergen Norway

This has been a long time coming, but here it is!

Bergen, The beautiful port city on the west coast of Norway, established before 1070 AD, home to the Hanseatic buildings of Bryggen, a World Heritage Site.

Benedicte, a primary school teacher and Kjetil a navigator in  Norway’s coastguard got married on the longest day of the year, June 21, 2014.

We (My beautiful wife/Second Shooter and I) flew into Bergen two days before the wedding day, which gave us time to check out the venues and do some serious location scouting, Bergen the gateway to the Fjords did not disappoint! We found some truly majestic locations as you are about to witness. We also shot B+K's engagement session around the buildings of Bryggen. After this we had sometime to chill out and soak up the the sunshine in Bergen. Day two we visited the reception venue, The beautiful, Fjordslottet Hotel. Set up perfectly for a wedding, with a large sky light running the length of the dining area, and various lounge rooms decorated beautifully. Being so far north meant we had endless light, A photographers dream  and of course enjoying a glass of red wine at midnight after a long days shooting with the sun still above the horizon was a beautiful experience. Well here it is, Benedicte and Kjetil's Wedding day;  You can also Check out more here

My Own Wedding,

May 28th 2014, The day that changed my life (and my business)

With only two months of planning my wife and I pulled off the most perfect, beautiful day of our life. With a logistical nightmare of travel & short notice, my parents in New Zealand and my wife's family in Lithuania. We decided to go for a low key affair, register office, small reception and straight to the airport for a honey moon in Croatia, a modern day elopement.

The one thing we wanted the least of was stress, but we wanted a stylish and creative wedding, but within a budget. We succeeded with our modern day elopement. The important things to us of course was photography, and we had one of the finest photographers in the UK, Melissa Kay Photography made the journey from the north for us!

With a first look, a portrait session in Central London, I can't even describe how excited I am to see these photos!

I now have the first hand experience that all my wedding and portrait clients have after a shoot, and its invaluable knowledge and experience to incorporate into my own business!

The next most important thing was from my bride to be, and how she looked, she wanted a modern, stylish yet vintage feel, and she pulled it off to perfection! With a beautiful lacy knee length, closed neck dress, WOW! believe me! She also found the perfect head piece to set off the vintage look, a beautifully hand crafted head piece from, With love from Bobbin, Matched to a pair of stunning mustard yellow high heels, stunning does not say enough.

We maintained the yellow theme, which meant I needed something yellow, a tie we thought, but finding a suitable/stylish shirt became a difficult task! so I ended up with a tailor made, striking yellow shirt straight from Thailand, the craftsmanship (If thats what you call it) was outstanding! such a quality shirt, for a very good price! I-tailor if your interested! It really set of the stylish look we were going for.

We had a beautiful little ceremony at our local town hall, and with this digital age Skype saved the day allowing our parents to witness this special occasion! It was an experience like no other, all of a sudden you are filled with so much emotion, positive energy and tearful eyes! Surrounded with close friends, a beautiful bride and our parents plugged in via the world wide web, I couldn't have wished for more. We decided to stop via our favourite local bar, to be fair they didn't expect us but we were the only ones in there so it worked very well. Some delicious platters of food, more bubbles, whisky and cigars, a new wife and our beautiful first dance! a splendid afternoon was spent, time seemed to get away on us and we had to rush or we would have missed our plane (This is part two, Croatia!) But first a cake had to be cut! What started as a Naked Chocolate cake, soon turned in to a rather decorative affair. Home made by the two of us, we had a few problems with the icing and decorating of the cake, butchered was one of the words used! salvageable? Of course with an amazing photographer who also has epic skills in other areas, Our cake soon turned into a modern masterpiece! With the cake cut, demolished and throughly enjoyed, we soon had to be out the door on our way to Croatia..... The nick of time, lucky chance, or well executed? I like to think well executed! :) below is a small collection of images from our wedding shoot in central London.
